The industrial refrigeration and cooling sector faces a crucial challenge: ensuring high performance while keeping water and electricity consumption to a minimum. To meet these needs, W-Tech introduces the new Hybrid Series, a technological architecture designed to combine the efficiency of evaporative systems with the sustainability of dry systems.
Architecture and Operating Principle: Adaptive Thermal Intelligence
At the heart of the innovation behind the Hybrid Series lies in the strategic integration of an additional copper-and-aluminum finned battery, positioned at the top of the unit.
- Dry pre-cooling: The process fluid first passes through the upper finned coil. During cold or temperate periods, the heat load is primarily dissipated through dry cooling using ambient air, without the use of recirculating water (maximum water savings).
- Optimized evaporative cooling system: During the warmer seasons or during peak loads, the pre-cooled fluid enters the standard evaporative section. Since the incoming heat load has already been reduced, the amount of water and energy required to complete the cooling process is significantly reduced.
- Adaptive control via a controller: An integrated electronic controller constantly analyzes the data from the external sensors. The system automatically and dynamically adjusts the speed of the fans and the recirculation pump, automatically switching from the fully dry mode to the intermediate and wet modes, thereby optimizing water and electricity savings.
Performance and Savings: Water, Energy, and Reduced Environmental Impact
Optimal air and water management leads to measurable operational benefits:
- Energy savings of up to 35%: Compared to traditional unregulated air-cooled or evaporative systems, the combination of pre-cooling and inverter-controlled fan units drastically reduces power consumption.
- 25% Water Savings: Since the system operates primarily in dry mode during months with low and moderate temperatures, this reduces total annual water consumption by up to 25% and minimizes the need for chemical treatments.
- Anti-Fog Function: During the winter months, the heat transferred from the upper finned coil warms the saturated outgoing airflow, eliminating or reducing the “plume” effect (the visible column of vapor above the towers).
Advanced Materials and Electronic Components
The Hybrid Series is built using technologies designed to maximize service life and ease of maintenance:
- Magnelis® frame and additional protective features
All of the structural sheets are made of Magnelis®, an alloy of zinc, aluminum, and magnesium that offers corrosion resistance up to three times greater than that of traditional galvanized steel, even in chemically aggressive environments. Additional treatments, such as multi-layer protection, are available upon request 4Shields with an elastomeric polyurethane barrier.
- High-efficiency ventilation with EC motors
The Hybrid series uses electric fans with electronically commutated (EC) brushless DC motors. Since they have no mechanical brushes, they ensure less friction, less wear, reduced noise, and maximum efficiency even at partial loads.
- IE4-Class Recirculation Pump
The water pumps used boast an efficiency class of IE4 Super Premium, and are controlled by inverters to adapt to the required operating curves in real time.
